  • 24 guest rooms.

  • Chic Urban Bolthole
A quirky hotel with individually designed rooms and a wonderfully informal atmosphere

When it comes to boutique hotels there are few that do it better than the Artist Residence, with 24 guest rooms many of which have been individually designed by their artists in residence! The feel is more homely and eclectic, with an eccentric mix of upcycled and vintage furnishings alongside quirky pop-art prints and touches of retro. The inevitable outcome of such a mix of bedroom styles is an informal atmosphere throughout the rest of the hotel –  The Clubhouse, an all-day cafe and bar serving breakfast, bar snacks and cocktails across three comfy and eclectic spaces on the ground floor.

All rooms are en-suite and most have excellent sea views across the West Pier, given the prime seafront position on Regency Square. Along with flat-screen TVs, free wifi and Nespresso machines, rooms feature a mix of vintage and up-cycled furniture along with king-sized beds. Breakfast is served in a room with perhaps the best views of all, looking out over Regency Square to the iconic West Pier.

All in all, Artist Residence Brighton is a very cool place to stay, and the central location merely adds icing to the carefully crafted cake. They also have other equally arty properties in Penzance, Cornwall, in Pimlico, London and in Oxfordshire.

Our little courtyard garden is a sheltered and sunny spot for Summer drinks, and features an original street art mural by Pure Evil.

Suitable For

We love nabbing a window seat in the comfy Clubhouse to watch the sunset over West Pier - with a cocktail in hand, naturally. Our favourite bedroom would have to be the Bigger Balcony Sea View room, as it has amazing floor-to ceiling windows and a private balcony with fabulous sea views - plus a copper bathtub in the bedroom for added luxury whilst you enjoy the view.

Brighton is a vibrant hub of creative energy and there's always something happening! We love that you have both the city and the beach on your doorstep - it's the best of both worlds.

Food & Drink

Riddle and Finns is a Brighton institution for amazing seafood, but there are endless options in Brighton!

Double rooms from £125 (midweek) to £165 (weekend); 2-night minimum at the weekend. Dogs are charged £15 per dog, per night - includes dog bed, bowl and Lily's Kitchen treats.

The Owner Says

The Grade II-listed townhouse hotel features 24 eclectic bedrooms, plus a restaurant and cocktail bar - The Set - serving a set tasting menu of seasonal dishes, as well as a more casual tapas menu alongside craft draught beers and cocktails.

Each of the bedrooms has been individually designed with original artwork and bespoke furniture. Room facilities include flat-screen TV with free-view, free Wi-Fi and tea & coffee making facilities.

Breakfast is served in The Set Bar, with an exciting menu of brunch tapas dishes and a view over the seafront and West Pier.

Brighton train station is just a 10-minute walk, with many of Brighton’s main attractions, such as the Royal Pavillion, Brighton beach, the Laines and plenty of restaurants, bars and shops, just a short stroll away.

Definitely be going back again!

One of the quirkiest and most original hotels I have ever stayed in! Each room has been decorated by a different artist given each room it's own identity, ( what's better than been able to stay in a room decorated by of your favourite artists) I stayed in the Jamie Brown room who's work I admire hugely! The room it self was clean and had beautiful furniture and the best feature a private balcony looking over the amazing and iconic West Pier! As well as the great room, the hotel has an onsite gallery and cafe which in my opinion serves up a brilliant and tasty breakfast, we opted for the Big AR Breakfast which kept us going for hours and was made with the very best produce! I would recommend this hotel to all of my friends and will definitely be going back again!
