When it comes to boutique hotels there are few that do it better than the Artist Residence, with 23 guest rooms, many of which have been individually designed by their artists in residence! The feel is homely and eclectic, with an eccentric mix of vintage furnishings alongside quirky pop-art prints and touches of retro. The inevitable outcome of such a mix of bedroom styles is an informal atmosphere throughout the rest of the hotel – the restaurant, an all-day spot serving breakfast, brunch and cocktails come evening, across three comfy spaces on the ground floor.

All rooms are en-suite and most have excellent sea views across the West Pier, given the prime waterfront position on Regency Square. Along with flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and Nespresso machines, rooms feature a mix of upcycled furniture along with king-sized beds. If you fancy something bigger, there are three apartments next door, all with more of those glorious vistas, plus kitchenettes and living areas. Breakfast is served in a space with perhaps the best panoramas of all, looking out over Regency Square to the iconic West Pier.

All in all, Artist Residence Brighton is a very cool place to stay, and the central location merely adds icing to the carefully crafted cake. They also have other equally arty properties in Penzance, Cornwall, in Pimlico, London, in Bristol, and in Oxfordshire.

Definitely be going back again!

One of the quirkiest and most original hotels I have ever stayed in! Each room has been decorated by a different artist given each room it's own identity, ( what's better than been able to stay in a room decorated by of your favourite artists) I stayed in the Jamie Brown room who's work I admire hugely! The room it self was clean and had beautiful furniture and the best feature a private balcony looking over the amazing and iconic West Pier! As well as the great room, the hotel has an onsite gallery and cafe which in my opinion serves up a brilliant and tasty breakfast, we opted for the Big AR Breakfast which kept us going for hours and was made with the very best produce! I would recommend this hotel to all of my friends and will definitely be going back again!
