The Manor Farmhouse

Gilly and Simon Groom run this wonderfully historic 16th-century farmhouse B&B with so much such care it seeps out of the metre-thick walls. Dethick is a tiny hamlet close to some grand houses: Chatsworth, Hardwick and Haddon are easily reachable. Nestled in a cluster of ancient buildings, which includes a lovely church, and with fabulously long-reaching views, Manor Farm is the place to go if you want to be completely spoilt. Gilly cooks your delicious organic breakfast in the vaulted family kitchen (chatting all the while, helping you plan your day); it’s homely and comfy; and no one stands on ceremony. Bedrooms are spotless, with fabulous linen, sumptuous textiles and equally appealing bathrooms. The quirky and cottagey ‘garden room’ is our favourite – throw the doors open on a sunny morning and wander barefoot in your jimjams around the delightful garden.
