The Laverick Cottage

The Laverick Cottage is an ideal base for the sights of this spectacular region, with three double bedrooms, two with super-king-size beds and the third with twin beds; all three have en-suite bathrooms – two with showers and the other (the master bedroom) with a rolltop bath and separate shower. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor, making this an ideal choice for a group or family with someone who is not so physically able. Downstairs there's also a very comfortable sitting room with two sofas and a large fireplace with a wood-burning stove and French doors leading out to the sunny garden. There's a kitchen-diner with seating for up to 8 people and all the appliances you could desire – a range cooker, large American-style fridge-freezer, dishwasher, all set around a central island and breakfast bar.

As for the location, you couldn't be better placed for exploring the best Northumberland has to offer – from Hadrian's Wall and the Roman site of Vindolanda to the beauty and drama of nearby Kielder Forest and the Northumberland National Park. The bustling market town of Hexham is a short drive away and it's not far into Newcastle if you fancy a spot of metropolitan glamour. Or just try one of the many walks you can from your doorstep. There are loads of great country pubs around – not least the nearby Red Lion in Newbrough, which serves great food and local ales, the excellent and renowned Angel at Corbridge and even a superb fine-dining restaurant, Hjem in nearby Wall.
