Frankfurter Eck
62 Elm Row Edinburgh EH7 4AQ
Tucked away on Elm Row lies this tiny, unassuming, new five table place serves up some honest to goodness German 'home cooking' long after the Christmas markets have packed up for the season. Schnitzel, sausages, gulasch and other traditional favourites sit alongside delicacies such as beef brisket in a horseradish sauce - and all with change from a tenner, which will probably tempt you into surrendering to a slice of apple strudel while you're there. It's unlicensed as yet, but you can bring your own and there are no corkage fees to worry about. At weekends you can set yourself up with a hearty Bavarian Farmer's Breakfast, or choose from a selection of other tasty Teutonic morning bites.
