Theatre of Wine
75 Trafalgar Rd Greenwich London SE10 9TS
The wine lovers of Greenwich swear by this place, set up by a refugee from Oddbins a decade ago, and it's true that Theatre of Wine is a breath of fresh air in a homogenised world, selling all sorts of interesting wines – and beers and ciders – that you just won't find anywhere else. The wines are lovingly selected by the owner Daniel Xxxx, from a host of mainly small producers from all over Europe (it's not so strong on the New World). It's not a cheap shop – you won't find very much for under a tenner – but the selection is wide and varied and alway high quality, and you'll get as much advice as you need before you part with for money. They also run regular tastings, entertaining, occasionally riotous affairs which start around 7.30pm and usually last a couple of hours. They also have a branch north of the river in Tufnell Park, and we can only hope that they'll be opening many more.
