Indoors is cosy, with marine-themed murals and dogeared theatreland photos to liven up the walls. Good fish and chips are becoming rarer and rarer, so it’s a relief to find that at Rock & Sole Plaice the fish is juicy, the batter crispy, and the chips fat and golden. Mushy peas fans will delight in the bright green delicacy on offer here, and you can even branch out from your standard cod and chips to skate or plaice, should you be feeling daring.
