As you squeeze onto a bench in one of the tiny cubicles in this warmly atmospheric spot, you can’t help thinking this is what London’s original coffee houses must have been like. When the Monmouth Coffee Company arrived in Covent Garden in the 1970s, they introduced a commitment to quality, responsibly sourced coffees from around the world. They no longer roast on site, but they still make some of the finest coffee in London; most customers take away, whether they’ve chosen drinks, pastries or simply a bag or two of magic beans, but Monmouth coffee is best savoured cheek-to-cheek with your fellow java junkies in the cosy little mezzanine at the rear.
