8 Butchery Lane Canterbury CT1 2JR
A Moorish tapas bar inspired by Granada, Café Mauresque serves Spanish/Moroccan food in a warm, wonderfully authentic atmosphere of tiles, soft coloured lights and hookahs. The food effectively mixes the two cultures too, with tagines and paella alongside serrano ham or merguez sausage tapas to falafel, hummus and tortilla. It has to be said, as cities go Canterbury is about as English as they come and just around the corner of the famous cathedral this bar could almost feel out of place. Lucky then that the food and atmosphere will quickly win you over - An authentic drop of español in the cobbled english streets.
