Village Hotel Glasgow

The big, boxy four-star hotel on the south bank of the Clyde sells itself as the all-in-one hotel destination for Glasgow, and there's certainly something in  that if you're here for the football, a gig, a conference, or a family trip to any of the city-centre or Clydeside attractions. Yes, you're not bang in the centre, but parking is really easy, right outside (free over the weekends until Sunday at 3pm, charged thereafter) and local transport very handy. The rooms more than do the job too – spacious, contemporary doubles that are family-friendly and accessible, all with big beds, rain showers, and huge screens with Sky TV.

However, it's all the other stuff that makes the Village stand out from the Glasgow four-star crowd. The health and wellness centre, for a start, with its heated indoor pool, family times, serious gym, steam room and sauna. Or the extensive buffet breakfast and in-hotel Starbucks. Or the big-screen, live sports pub and grill. Truth is, you don't have to leave the site at all during your stay if all this floats your boat, while if you've been out and about for the day in Glasgow, it's a nice set of amenities to come back to. There are all sorts of deals and members' club offers too, meaning some pretty good rates at times too.
