UK Ice Rinks for Christmas & New Year

Ice skating isn't just for kids, it's an activity all ages can enjoy: sliding across the rink, maybe even going backwards – for those that are feeling extra brave. Around the UK there are a number of fabulous venues to don a pair of boots at and get gliding this winter and Christmastime. In our previous Christmas Markets blog we mentioned a handful, including Winchester, Nottingham and York. Here are a selection of other places across the country, alongside great places to stay if the feeling takes you – ranging from rustic B&Bs to stylish hotels. Go on, get your skates on...


Hit 1,000 metre squared Bath on Ice this festive season and enjoy a magical day out on. Pre-booking isn't essential, but it is highly recommended.  There's also glow-in-the-dark mini golf to get stuck into. The fun lasts until 6th January. A wonderful option in the south east, the Royal Pavilion houses a rink until 13th January. And there's a rinkside bar and restaurant too for those feeling peckish and thirsty after a skating session. Fancy spending the night by the coast? Check into relaxed B&B The Cavalaire and experience top-notch service.


Visit Scotland's capital and glide around the Cider Lodge in St Andew Square: there's an eye-catching elliptical ice rink begging to be skated on that's open until 5th January. Accomodation-wise, Holyrood Cottage is a top-notch self-catering bolthole.
Loctaed outside the Cathedral, Ice Skate Truro is set in a scenic position. Open til 6th January, it's makes for a magical festive activity. Staying over? Head to The Alverton, a former Victorian-Gothic manor house.


Dover's White Cliffs Christmas ice rink is back once again, with a covered rink, live music and seasonal shopping. Open until 1st January, be sure to book in advance. How about Alkham Court Farmhouse bed and breakfast for a luxury option to lay your head down at?


This year, they've put a cover on the rink: until 5th January, enjoy Ice Skate Birmingham in all weather conditions. Looking for somewhere grand to stay? A short drive away sits Hampton Manor, a country-chic escape.


Head to Cribbs Causeway for the south west’s largest open-air ice rink, take a ride on the Christmas train and visit Santa’s Enchanted Ice Castle. For another option, there's central Millennium Square. Both are open until the 6th. Come evening, sleep at stylish hotel Bristol Harbour.


The city is filled with options this December and into the new year. First-up, there's the Natural History Museum, an outdoor rink in grand surroundings that's open until 20th January. There are also rinks at Somerset House, the Tower of London and on the outskirts of the metropolis, Hampton Court Palace. And it doesn't get much better than Artist Residence in terms of boutique hotels.


With a 300 metres squared rink, there’s plenty of space to practise and pick up some speed. Open until 6th January, it's a fun family day out. Then why not check in to the Maids Head, a truly characterful spot.


Cardiff Winter Wonderland lasts until 6th January and is home to  the Admiral ice rink, an open-air offering. Plus plenty of other attractions including bars, street food and a fun fair. For a super comfy yet budget-friendly option, book into the city centre YHA.
