A luxury, contemporary B&B in a beautiful Somerset location – and where nothing is too much trouble.

The inhabitants of the pleasant Somerset market town of Frome are a happy bunch, content to reside in a place that was celebrated not so long ago in The Times as one of the best towns in the UK in which to live. But the good news is they want to share it with the rest of us, especially Penny Reynolds, whose Swallow Barn boutique B&B is the perfect place to stay to sample both the delights of Frome and also of the Somerset countryside beyond.

Penny calls Swallow Barn a luxury B&B and she isn't joking: two beautifully decorated guest rooms boast country-chic decor, great beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, and wifi, Nespresso coffee machines, Sky TV and bluetooth speakers. The en-suite wet-rooms come with lovely Cowshed toiletries (suppliers to Soho House). Each room has its own private outside space, and there are also sun-loungers overlooking the meadow in a secluded seating area with a fire pit, garden games and exquisite views – perfect for a barbecue on a summer evening. A continental breakfast is delivered to your door each morning, so that you can enjoy a lazy breakfast in bed or – if the weather is cooperating – outside in the wild flower meadows.

The location, too, can hardly be bettered. You're deep in the English countryside yet just a mile outside Frome, which is home to a very cool vibe, lots of great indie shops and a decent array of places to eat. Walkers can access the long-distance Macmillan Way footpath by simply strolling through the back garden (it runs from Abbotsbury in Dorset to Lincolnshire so you not want to do it all), and you're also only a short drive from the lovely Georgian city of Bath, with its many sights and the excellent food they serve at The Chequers). Take it from us, when the time comes to leave you'll be thinking of moving down here yourself.

Best local places to eat and drink

We have wonderful eateries within a couple of miles. Our favourites are The Talbot at Mells, and The Fat Radish and Castellos in Frome. There are also a plethora of fantastic cafes to refresh yourself whilst walking, cycling, shopping or merely exploring the area.

Why stay with us?

We are fantastically located for a perfect, relaxing break yet closely situated to a wealth of incredible places.
