Brindleys occupies that cosy little niche between B&B and hotel – a boutique, six-bedroom, Victorian-era guesthouse, with a highly personal feel. The location helps too, just a little way out of the centre in a residential area, close to the Kennet and Avon canal and only a short walk to all the sights. It's a stylish, grown-up home-from-home (no children under 12), with rooms very much in the French country vein, with painted, antique-style furniture and soothing colour schemes. Each is differently decorated, but quality linens, fluffy towels, good showers, fancy local toiletries and smart TVs are common to each room. Room 3 is probably the pick, with its superking-sized bed, high ceiling, triple bay windows and city views.
You get a complimentary parking permit to use in the surrounding streets – a real bonus for Bath, where parking can be difficult – and breakfast is nearly all locally sourced, from a Full English to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Weekend stays are very popular – you'll need to book well in advance.
