Speedwell House B&B

Situated in the pretty Derbyshire village of Castleton, deep in the heart of the Peak District, Speedwell House offers a variety of accommodation. Owners Mark and Hilary have a self-catering Barn and Stable which each provides self-catering dog-friendly accommodation for 2 people. But they also run the beautiful, award-winning Speedwell House boutique B&B next door, which has two extremely comfortable guest bedrooms who want to be a little bit more pampered while still being perfectly placed for exploring  the Peak District National Park – which stretches out tantalisingly in all directions.

The B&B's two rooms each have high-quality beds and bedding with lots of pillows, wall-mounted TVs with Freeview, wifi and tea-and coffee-making facilities – plus en-suite bathrooms with showers and complimentary toiletries. One bedroom is decorated, appropriately enough, in 'speedwell blue', while the other is more neutral. Throughout, the look and feel is tasteful and original, with bespoke furniture made by local craftsmen, local art and the odd antique chair or dresser.

You're offered a drink on arrival and a breakfasts each morning that is well worth waking up for, featuring a generous Full English as well as lots of other options – just the thing for a day out enjoying what is by any standards a spectacular location. They have a large garden, with newly planted trees and a small orchard, where you can enjoy views of Peveril Castle with a glass of wine each evening. Castleton itself is a lovely village, and well worth exploring in its own right; and there are invigorating walks in all directions – everything from a circular walks around the village taking in the ruins of the castle to trips further afield to Mam Tor, Edale and the Hope Valley. The Derbyshire towns of Buxton and Bakewell are a short drive away, and  you couldn't be better looked after, with Mark and Hilary always on hand with tips on the best walks and pubs to help you make the most of your stay.
