Family-friendly all the way, Coles House is a large property in the tranquil West Sussex coastal town of Selsey, not far from Chichester. Sleeping up to 15 people across six bedrooms, it's a lovely spot to get together with loved ones. Part of The Butler Collection, guests can make use of their bespoke concierge service – a team's on hand to book private chefs, make restaurant reservations and arrange activities.
The grand brick exterior, complete with no less than 11 sash windows, gives way to a holiday home filled with well-preserved period features, from original fireplaces and wide floorboards to ornate ceiling cornices and wooden beams. Dating back to Georgian times, the property is overflowing with character, including painted panelled walls, log burners, cast iron radiators, and a piano overlooking the garden. There are modern touches as well: stylish bathrooms (5.5 in total, spread across the house) and a well-equipped country-chic kitchen with a dining table.
Take in the pair of living rooms at ground level (one's more formal than the other), before heading up to the generously sized bedrooms: some are kings with en-suites, while others are twins or sleep three across a double and a single. Outside, discover the sizeable garden – perfect for children to play, adults to relax, and everyone to dine al fresco. It's worth noting that Coles House isn't suitable for parties, due to the proximity of neighbours.
The charming retreat is enviably positioned, surrounded by countryside and a mile from the beach. The maritime town of Selsey is home to cafés, pubs and independent shops, but if you fancy exploring, there are plenty of scenic coastal walks, or you can check out the South Downs National Park. For the more adventurous, try crabbing or kayaking, while bird and wildlife lovers will enjoy visiting RSPB Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve. Meanwhile, the Witterings are nearby, and Chichester is a 25-minute drive away.
