New College

Holywell Street Oxford OX1 3BN

Nothing in Oxford is predictable, and so it is with New College, which (like several others) in fact claims to be Oxford’s oldest, dating from 1379. The quad and the chapel are beautiful examples of Oxford college architecture – don’t miss the highly ornamented east wall of the chapel, in particular. But you’re best off coming here for 6.15pm any day except Wednesday (6pm Sundays) for some moments of musical magic and pure peace at Evensong.
