Bainton Bikes is a friendly, family-run bicycle shop a ten-minute walk from the city centre. There are over 150 bikes on offer for hire – from road bikes to mountain bikes, tandems to Brompton folding bikes and more. Child trailers are also available. Prices start from £10 per day – although the longer you hire a bike for the cheaper it becomes (eg from £24 for five days). All bikes come with lights, locks and a map of Oxford. The welcoming staff will happily share their favourite cycle routes, if you ask.
Bainton Bikes also run a number of bike tours, both around the city and into the nearby countryside. Choose from ‘The Oxford Experience’, combining the city’s best attractions, ‘Official Oxford Cycle Tour’, including the city and countryside, ‘The Charming Cotswolds’ or a ‘Bespoke Cycle Tour’. Cycle tours can cover a range of distances and can last up to seven hours. Tours from £25 per person (students £20; under 16s £15).
