The Tarka Trail
Inspired by Henry William's 1927 novel, 'Tarka The Otter', The Tarka Trail is an 180-mile, figure-eight loop of footpaths and bridleways that takes you through some of Devon's most beautiful and diverse landscapes. It takes in parts of the county's two national parks – Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks – and at times offers spectacular sea views of the sea and the coast's magnificent beaches. It also includes the UK’s longest, traffic-free cycle path, connecting Braunton in the north to Meeth in the south, and it also encompasses the Tarka Line rail service to Barnstaple. If you want to do just a section of the trail, why not try the superb circular 15-mile route from Ilfracombe to Georgeham, which takes in some outstanding scenery around Mortehoe and Woolacombe?
