Village Hotel Hull

Keeping everyone happy on a family city break can be a tough ask – but it helps if you get the accommodation right, and the Village Hotel gets you off to a great start. The rooms are big, modern and family-friendly (accessible too) – so things like charging points and iron and ironing board are standard – and there's Sky TV in every room. There's a big hot buffet breakfast (with unlimited hot drinks), a Starbuck's on site, and a Pub & Grill with all-day dining, which means everyone is catered for when it comes to eating and drinking. Best of all though is the state-of-the-art Health and Wellness Centre, with its 20-metre pool, huge gym, sauna and steam room – there are even daily, dedicated family swim times, which is a real bonus if you've got younger children to entertain.

Hull itself is a vastly underrated city, with tons of great family-friendly attractions. The hotel is five miles out of the centre, near the Humber Bridge, but it's only a quick ten-minute drive in and parking is easy (for free at weekends outside the hotel, plus plenty of available signposted parking in the city).  The Deep is the big-ticket- attraction, a spectacular aquarium down by the Humber River, but there's so much more – from the Dickensian cobbled streets of the Old Town to a terrific set of free museums. And don't miss the country park and viewing areas at the Humber Bridge – the Village Hotel is perfectly sited for a trip to England's most majestic suspension bridge.
