Humber Street Gallery

64 Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TU

Hull's new contemporary art space sits in the heart of the Fruit Market cultural quarter – another makeover of an old fruit warehouse, this time with a mission to push boundaries, provoke and inspire debate ("whatever you think about art, you're right" runs the clever tagline). The 2017 programme kicked off in provocative style, with explicit-content exhibitions by Sarah Lucas and Hull collective COUM Transmissions – the rest of the year promises to be just as in-your-face. In-house cafe-bar, 64, gets in on the act too, with pride of place given to 'Dead Bod', the iconic dead-bird graffiti that featured for years on one of the harbour's corrugated iron sheds.
