The Swan has always been a delightful hotel, situated in a rather splendid Georgian building right in the heart of the genteel Suffolk resort of Southwold, but it got even better since it was brought right up to date a few years ago. It's possible that it may have lost a touch of old-world charm, but is a great deal more comfortable as a result, with spacious, bright guest rooms with all amenities including Nespresso machines and tea-making facilities, 40-inch Smart TVs, bluetooth speakers and mini bar (some rooms also have Apple TV). Divided between 'Excellent', 'Outstanding' and 'Fabulous', the hotel's 35 bedrooms are split between the main building and a plainer annexe, the former featuring four poster beds, while the others with private patios and views of Southwold's historic lighthouse.
The hotel has a terrific restaurant that's a great venue for both a big night out or an intimate dinner for two, looking out over Southwold's busy market place andwith a crowd-pleasing seasonal menu that takes in everything from local seafood to Suffolk pork and lamb. They also serve an excellent 'bar menu' in the more relaxed Tap Room. All things considered, The Swan the place to stay in Southwold if your budget can run to it.
