A formerly unloved establishment that was taken over and revitalised by Mark and Sophie Dorber in 2006, the Anchor is almost a destination in itself these days. It's best known for its food, but it's also the nicest place to stay in Walberswick, offering a choice between the old-fashioned quirkiness of its main building, where there are three cosily furnished doubles and one single, and the more contemporary comforts of the six cedar-clad garden chalets in the back garden, half of which are dog-friendly, and which offer more space and access to the dunes just beyond. There's free wifi, and you can take comfort in the fact that you're staying at one of the nicest places to eat along the entire coast – just make sure you book a table on arrival; it's popular! Or just drift in for a pint – Mark is a beer connoisseur so you can be sure there will be something worth trying on tap.
