Couples and families will love these woodland lodges and cabins in a hideaway Staffordshire location not far from Alton Towers.
They say that real get-away-from-it-all bucolic locations can be hard to find in England, but the people behind Huntley Wood haven't done a bad job – rustling up no less than 170 acres of woodland, meadows and lakes in the middle of rural Staffordshire that they have turned into a perfect hideaway for both couples and families. Also, with a location that's easily accessible from both the M1 and M6 motorways, it's extremely easy to get to, plus it's close to major-league attractions like Alton Towers and the Peak District National Park. Yet once here it's easy to feel that you have truly accessed the middle of nowhere – and what's more have a piece of it entirely to yourself.

Formerly a quarry, Huntley Wood is split into three main locations: The Greenvale, The Wyldwood and The Deepmere, all adjacent to each other but each designed to appeal to different tastes and needs. It's a versatile venue that can accommodate both couples looking for a romantic retreat and families looking to get back to nature for a while. But it's also perfect for weddings and private parties, and they even host the occasional festival.

Of the three main areas, the Greenvale is the largest, a secluded series of grassy meadows surrounded by a fortress of trees that occupies almost half the site.  At the centre there's a large open-plan vaulted barn with a wood-burning stove luxury that can accommodate 2 adults on a king-sized bed plus 2–4 small children on bunk beds; there's a living area with a dining table and a sofa and comfy chairs with a TV, DVD player, CD player with Bluetooth inputs– and there's wifi throughout.  Secret paths lead through the woods and there are camping pitches scattered around to accommodate any overflow, with tents available for hire on request. The barn has a well-equipped kitchen with oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, and there's a bathroom with separate bath and shower and toiletries.

The Wyldwood is smaller and more intimate, with individual timber-framed lodges in a fragrant pine wood along with areas of pasture, a small lake and deciduous woodland glades connected by winding paths. Again, the lodges have a king-size bed plus bunk beds for 2-4 children, and camping pitches (if needed) in the woods. Each one has wifi, a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need (oven, hob, microwave, fridge-freeezer, dishwasher, washing machine), a bathroom with toiletries and a living area with TV, DVD player, CD player with Bluetooth inputs. The Deepmere is a bit more dramatic, with rocky cliffs and forested slopes leading down to a large shallow lake, and deliberately more basic around which there's a field for wild camping.

Finally, we wouldn't blame you if you just wanted to hang out in your patch of woodland. But just in case the novelty wears off, Huntley Wood is in a terrific location – a short drive from the pleasant market town of Cheadle, not far from a couple of decent pubs, and with plentiful walking on your doorstep, either in the surrounding Staffordshire moorlands or the nearby Peak District. Families will also be interested to know that Alton Towers is no more than a fifteen-minute drive away. Not so much the middle of nowhere then – more the centre of everywhere!

In the heart of the Greenvale is our Luxury Oak Framed Barn with it's vaulted ceiling, rustic features and woodburner in a large stone fireplace. Perfect for a luxury secluded getaway.

The Wyldwood - “Beneath the canopy, woodland paths meander between sheltered glades, the trees alive with birdsong”. At approximately 30 acres in size, the Wyldwood provides an intimate and private location. Characterised by an enchanting pine wood in which the Lodge nestle, the Wyldwood also benefits from a wide variety of terrain including beautiful open areas of deciduous woodland, oak pasture containing numerous large glades connected by winding paths, and a small picturesque lake.
