Riverside Cabins

A hideaway, riverside, boutique cabin retreat in the heart of rural Shropshire? Yes please! That sounds like just the thing to recharge batteries or resurrect a bit of romance in your life. Award-winning Riverside Cabins are based right on the banks of the pretty little River Perry, surrounded by woodland, and just a short distance from the historic market town of Shrewsbury. It's an immaculate site: 10 acres of tranquillity tucked away behind a belt of bird-filled trees that line the river, and with plenty of space to call your own – not to mention the opportunity for quiet riverside rambles and some bracing wild swimming or dipping in the natural plunge pool.

There are two types of accommodation available, starting with the smaller 'pod' cabins that sleep between two and four people – you get a double or king-sized bed under a safari-style swagged ceiling, and clever fold-down wall-bunks, so these are ideal for couples and young families. There's also a fully equipped galley-style kitchen, a wet room with a shower, and a separate toilet. These cabins are snug, super-stylish, and like every unit on the site, come with underfloor heating, a river-view balcony, a barbecue area with a fire pit – and, best of all, a private hot tub.

The larger lodges comfortably sleep six in three bedrooms, including one en-suite and a family bathroom. There's a real sense of space, light and style, with nice, big windows throughout, a fully fitted kitchen-diner and access to a large private balcony. It's best to think of these as boutique apartments, with their designer interiors, Sonos wall speakers, American-style fridge-freezers, wall-mounted TVs, Nespresso machines with complimentary biodegradable pods, and – of course – the signature hot tubs attached to every lodge. All the accommodation is dog-friendly and each has a Ninja air fryer, plus two of the larger lodges have access ramps for those with restricted mobility. They're also very eco-conscious here – a green ethos that was rewarded when Riverside Cabins clinched Green Tourism’s Silver Award and West Midlands Tourism Best Ethical, Sustainable and Responsible Business in 2023.

But that's not all. There's an oak outdoor kitchen – The Smokehouse – with a large dining table, a six-foot BBQ, a Kamado Egg, a big firepit, and all the essentials for cooking outdoors style. On top of that, guests can enjoy the wellness studio complete with spacious decking overlooking the grounds – ideal for yoga, pilates and cinema evenings. There's also a communal fire pit in a natural quarry for guests to use, a couple of e-bikes for hire, and stand-up paddle boards and kayaks to borrow for free. A float down the river puts you in even more solitude, or there are tons of family-friendly attractions within an hour's drive. The closest pub, a traditional village inn with good food, is just a few minutes' drive away – there's also a local farm shop.
