A striking cabin with a hot tub on a Herefordshire hillside – dog-friendly, too
The A Frame stands tall and proud within 18 acres of rewilded farmland in Herefordshire, offering self-catering as sustainable as it is stylish. It’s a self-contained, off-grid cabin for two with a clean and contemporary look and a hot tub on the deck, proving that being green doesn’t have to have rough edges. Indeed, there’s none of those at this place. The A Frame has a high-end finish for a luxury glamping experience, helping you feel comfortably connected to the great outdoors. You can lie in the super-king-size bed on the mezzanine and gaze at stars through Velux windows, soak in the warm water of the wood-fired hot tub while watching the setting sun, or have a bracing wash under the outdoor shower. Make coffee in the well-equipped kitchenette or fire up the barbecue on the balcony, listening to birdsong. It’s a simple but simply lovely way to holiday.
Inside, you'll find a modern, open-plan space with whitewashed timbers and painted walls. There’s soothing sage in the bedroom and sunny yellow in the kitchenette downstairs. You won’t miss a TV; instead, a comfy sofa is angled towards a log burner, and there are books and games. You can charge devices via USB ports, but be mindful that the cabin runs on solar power and there are no three-pin plugs. Its water comes from a spring, and the toilet in the en-suite bathroom is composting.
The A Frame is one of four equally eco cabins at The Fold, the name the Pritchards have given to the luxury glamping site they’ve developed on the family farm. You might spy The Treehouse or meet guests from The Nova Dome or The Scandi Cabin when you park up, but these are all far enough apart that you have a real sense of privacy for your stay. They're also a little walk from the car, so your views are as green as the cabins themselves.
Herefordshire is a rural county, and here, near the village of Vowchurch, you're at its heart, midway between Hereford and the border with Wales. That means you have the Wye Valley National Landscape in one direction and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in the other, both about a half-hour drive. Walking, canoeing and kayaking are all worthy ways to spend your time exploring this lovely part of the UK – but, once here, you might decide that relaxing at The Fold is all you want to do.
