For those of you who are unfamiliar with Vintage Vacations, they're the people responsible for the UK's first retro Airstream campsite. Yep, it all started with the quirky 'silver bullet' style American 1960s caravan and has now become a vintage empire operated by Helen and Frazer Cunningham. One of their latest ventures is the Scout Hall – a delightfully restored (you guessed it) scout hall, which they took over in 2011. It's in Chale, close to Blackgang Chine and slap bang in an Area of Outstanding Beauty, so needless to say the views are epic, and the village is as postcard-perfect as it gets. Inside it has received a makeover, with 1960s furniture and decor, and Helen and Frazer make you feel instantly at home with cake and flowers on arrival. There are four bedrooms, two with king-size beds and one (the 'Elvis' bedroom) with its own bar and patio. There's a living space, dining area, kitchen, private car park and outdoor barbecue – and, among more twenty-first century facilities, a dishwasher, washing machine, flatscreen TV, CD player and wifi. Overall it's the perfect retro stopover whilst exploring the island.
Alongside Scout Hall, there are two other unique options – The Mission and The Shack – the former is a two-bed 1895 ‘tin tabernacle’ situated on Blythe Shute, just outside of Chale, whilst the latter is a quaint little shack located in a seaside spot near to Cowes.
