Beautifully situated Victorian-era Isle of Wight hotel with fantastic sea views

If you've got one superbly sited Isle of Wight clifftop hotel, it makes perfect sense to buy another next door – and here's Luccombe Manor to prove the point, under the same ownership as the adjacent Luccombe Hall (and the nearby Shanklin Villa Apartments), and just as alluring. There is a slightly different vibe here – a bit smaller in scale, with a touch of true Victorian clifftop, seaside splendour – but the same excellent qualities are all in place, from the slick, can-do service to the comfortable rooms with their breathtaking sea views.

There are 23 rooms – Standard and Sea View – all charmingly decorated in light seaside colours. There's everything you need inside the rooms for a relaxing stay, or choose the high-spec, three-bedroom self-catering apartment (sleeps 6 +1) for a more private stay. There's also one ground-floor hotel room with a walk-in shower (the rest are on the upper floors). Unlike a lot of places on the island, dogs are welcome in most of the rooms, and there are gardens opposite for daily dog walks.

Many visitors say it's the choice of facilities that marks out Luccombe Manor. There's an outdoor hot tub and summer spa pool, private garden and games room, but as all guests also have access to neighbouring Luccombe Hall, there's a whole lot more to your stay than that – from two more pools and a sauna to well-equipped children's play areas and more garden space with amazing sea views.

There's a very good breakfast included in the room rate – accompanied by great sea views, of course – while for other meals you can walk over to Luccombe Hall and make the most of their excellent restaurant and bar (Dinner, B&B rates are available). Otherwise, you're right on the edge of charming Shanklin Old Village, with its thatched buildings, pubs and tea rooms. Meanwhile, the coastal path runs north to Sandown and south to Ventor, for easy walks straight from the hotel. Book a seasonal walking break, and they'll throw in a map, guide and other supplies to get you on the right track.

We will be back

Lovely staff at Luccombe Manor, we took our dog and the facilities for them are fantastic!! Dog shower, welcome pack, beds and breakfast. Very dog friendly. Also very human friendly, the staff are amazing nothing is too much trouble, food is lovely and the hotel and grounds were beautiful and it has a homely feel about it.

An excellent doggy friendly hotel

This hotel is an a nice quiet location and overlooks the sea. The staff were really welcoming and the hotel is REALLY doggy friendly (dogs receive a welcome pack and a cooked sausage for breakfast!). All in all an excellent stay.

Fantastic hotel, will be back

We moved to Lucommbe Manor after a disappointing stay elsewhere. It was fantastic. Great friendly staff, delicious breakfast. Great location as short walk to beach, shops and pubs. The best was the indoor and outdoor pools. Will definitely be back.

Stunning location, brilliant staff

Beautiful location - could not be better. Was given free ticket to the chine so was able to walk down to the beach a few times. Worth catching it after dark too. The staff were friendly, welcoming and yet relaxed. The hotel could not be more dog friendly. I have never been able to sit by the pool with my dog. The breakfast options are good - as a vegetarian I was well catered for, and the hotel are happy to adapt the options too.

Beautiful setting, relaxing hotel

My daughter and I stayed here in May. The hotel has three pools and several hot tubs and they were all warm. We wanted a hotel that was relaxing, peaceful and a bit off the beaten track and so it was perfect. The gardens and atmosphere are very nice. The breakfast and breakfast terrace were great and the breakfast experience set us up for a good day. When you stay at the hotel, you get a free pass for Shanklin Chine and we made good use of that. The staff were all extremely helpful, we felt very comfortable there. I would definitely recommend.

Would definitely recommend

Very well-run hotel, clean and great location. The staff were friendly and helpful, gave us a free pass to the Shanklin Chine which was very interesting. The bar was well stocked, although it would be nice if a draft beer was available.

Fabulous family stay for 3 nights. Really enjoyed it.

Lovely sea view room. Comfy beds, good facilities. Tea and coffee in the room with daily fresh milk. We had great weather and used the outdoor loungers and pools. Very polite and helpful staff. Great breakfast.

Great hotel

The hotel is very clean, the rooms are very nice, the staff are very friendly, the food excellent, and the grounds and facilities are first-class. It is well worth a visit. This is the first time at this hotel - we've stayed at the sister hotel and that one is as good.

A fantastic holiday

A wonderful stay at this gorgeous hotel. View from balcony over gardens and sea was so beautiful. Wonderful breakfast with the best choice of any hotel. Beautiful rooms. The light woke us too early, so I would suggest the addition of lined curtains, but that is the only criticism. It was a wonderful break and I will definitely go back.
