The Needles Park and Alum Bay

The area on the mainland immediately east of the Needles, the island’s three iconic chalk stalks, has been spoiled by a not particularly exciting mini theme park on the clifftop above the famous multi-coloured sand cliffs of Alum Bay. Get to the area early in the morning to have it mostly to yourself, as it gets very crowded later in the day, especially in summer, but whatever time of day you come the views of the Needles stretching out west in front of you are spectacular. For another angle on the Needles, walk down to Alum Bay, or take the vertigo-inducing chair lift.
