Culloden Estate & Spa
Belfast UK Northern Ireland
The gothic Culloden Estate & Spa is a landmark building just outside Belfast. It sits on an elevated position, majestically looking down upon Belfast Lough and across to the County Antrim Coastline. It was built in 1876, mainly from Scottish stone, with the Holywood Hills providing shelter resulting in the grounds often being as much as three degrees warmer than in the city centre. It first opened as a hotel in 1962 with only eleven bedrooms. In 1996 it became Northern Ireland's first 5 star hotel and promises guests a luxurious stay in an idyllic setting. After recent renovations and extensions, it now proudly boasts 105 deluxe bedroom suites and 11 luxurious self-catering apartments. Many of the original rooms retain a Victorian charm via their decor and fixtures while newer rooms offer something more contemporary. Its close proximity to the city's airport means that it has attracted its fair share of celebrity guests, from Sir Cliff Richard to Robbie Williams and John McEnroe to David Beckham. It's worth visiting the hotel website for current Special Offers before booking... it's also a popular wedding venue and a wonderful option for a decadent Afternoon Tea for non-guests, served in the Drawing Room, overlooking the Lough!
