Mal Belfast is housed in two of the city's seed warehouses dating back to the mid-1800s. The building's exterior still has lots of original features on display, including an impressive array of stone gargoyles, complementing the hotel's Gothic-like interior, which is unlike any other hotel in the city centre and oozes rock n' roll from its seams.
The food ain't bad either – the Mal breakfast, especially the Eggs Benedict, is alone worth the price of a room. Speaking of which, all of the hotel's 64 bedrooms exude a decadent air, although it's the Samson and Goliath Suites that the pop stars head for, for the over-sized beds, granite bathrooms, purple pool table and top of the range sound system.
The Malbar too is special, with low lighting combined with plush red and black velvets that combine to make it feel like it's the wee small hours – just like a bar should be. You're as likely to find members of Muse perched here as you are the 'beautiful set' from Belfast. All in all it's a great spot, whether it's for pre-dinner cocktails or to celebrate a special occasion with an overnight stay in one of the hotel's sumptuous bedrooms.
