The Inn at Fossebridge
UK England South West England Gloucestershire Cirencester
As you enter the Fossebridge Inn you are likely to welcomed by Gibson, the resident black Labrador, a much-loved local institution with his own Facebook page and annual birthday party. It’s clear that Gibson sets the tone here, and there are dog treats and water bowls in the bar and in the extensive grounds, which are over 4 acres in size and contain a lake and a section of the River Coln. In winter, log fires in the restaurant are cosy, and in summer up to 200 people can be found dining al fresco from the extensive menu; particularly popular are the Inn’s range of pies (such eye-watering choices as roast shin of beef or Breton chicken pies) and there is a good choice of vegetarian and vegan options. The Fossebridge is conveniently situated on the ancient Fosse Way and is well-placed for visiting the nearby towns of Cirencester and Northleach as well as the nearby attractions of Cheltenham. And just up the road is the National Trust’s Chedworth (Yanworth) Roman villa, one of the grandest Roman dwellings in the country. The Fossebridge can provide local walking maps with a two-mile circular trip proving to be particularly popular. The Fossebridge Inn’s nine rooms are all dog-friendly, and dogs are charged at £15 per day.
