This 2-bed barn conversion is 'a little piece of paradise' in the bucolic countryside of North Wales

Situated in a lovely location in Llandyrnog, just to the south of the pretty village of Bodfari, 'Escape to the Stables' is just about right given the bucolic position of Forge Cottage. The owner Suzy calls it ' a little piece of paradise' and she is not wrong – this is a perfect place for either a romantic escape or an active family holiday in North Wales, located amid beautiful countryside, with multiple walks from the doorstep or slightly further afield on the long-distance the Offa's Dyke Path.

First the accommodation, which is basically a beautiful, recently converted detached barn that housed horses a couple of years ago but now comfortably sleeps four people in two double bedrooms with super-king-size beds. It has an airy and modern open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, with vaulted ceilings, a huge corner sofa and smart TV and a wood-burning stove for cosy nights in. There's underfloor heating throughout here and the main bedroom and a downstairs bathroom with a double-ended bath and a separate  walk-in shower. Patio doors lead out a small garden, with a BBQ and outdoor dining area and a private hot tub in a covered gazebo. It's peaceful and secluded, yet the owners live next door and are always on hand to answer any questions you may have, or to advise on where to go and what to see nearby. Both bedrooms can be set up as doubles or twins, and a cot is available on request for those with babies or toddlers.

You couldn't ask for a cosier or more contemporary place to stay, and you may get so comfortable you don't want to move – which Suzy makes even easier by offering extras like BBQ packs, logs for the fire or even chocolates and champagne. But that would be a pity, because there is much to do in the surrounding countryside: you're just 15 minutes from the Welsh coast; it's only half an hour to Conwy with its magnificent castle; while it's only slightly further to Snowdonia, where you can ride Europe's longest zipwire at Penrhyn; in the opposite direction, it's short drive across the border to the walled Tudor and medieval city of Chester.

We wouldn't blame you however if you did just decide to stay put – it would be a shame not to make the most of your bucolic surroundings, and Bodfari's village pub is an excellent destination if you need to stretch your legs!
