Not far from the sea, and only half an hour from Snowdonia, this contemporary village pub makes for the perfect North Wales luxury escape. To be fair, it’s less of a pub and more of a hotel these days, but it has all the atmosphere you expect of a busy inn, and it delivers in almost every other respect too. The food is superb: locally sourced and seasonal but also riddled with influences that stretch far beyond North Wales – think satay roasted broccoli followed by pan-fried sea bass with gnocchi and chorizo, or maybe local mussels in ale or a Thai green curry. There’s also always a good choice of veggie dishes on the menu, and drinks tend to focus on local favourites, for example good Welsh ales, along with Welsh whisky and craft gins.
As for their four guest rooms, they are all enormous – suites really – each with a large en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, high-end toiletries and a little kitchen with a kettle, toaster and other amenities. This is also where your breakfast will be delivered each morning, and each room is large enough to have a dining table and chairs at which to eat it.
