The ultimate luxury, contemporary country holiday property – deep in the heart of North Norfolk
They call it a 'little slice of rural magic' and for once the description is spot-on, not only at Godwick Hall itself, and and the glamping options nearby, but also at the estate's Old Stables, which has been refurbished with style and sensitivity to create a stunning holiday let – the latest collaboration of the Godwick Hall owner James Garner and local interior designer Tracey Grint of Moochi Modo Interiors.First the location is superb, with uninterrupted views across open parkland towards the' Lost Village of Godwick', a deserted medieval village that is yours to discover, along with the rest of the Godwick estate, which is just a few miles inland from the western end of the North Norfolk Coast.
As for the interiors, they are crisp, clean, contemporary and deliberately Scandinavian in feel, with a wonderful open-plan kitchen-diner and a living room with wall-length sofa and a central wood-burning stove under a high-beamed ceiling, both combining to exude the calmest, coolest holiday vibes. French doors open to the patio and large south-facing walled garden complete with its own HaHa and uninterrupted views across parkland to the estate's Great Barn.
There are three spacious bedrooms, one of which has an amazing high-vaulted ceiling and modern four-poster king-size bed in front of a bespoke wall mural. The second bedroom is equipped with a bath and en-suite loo, double basin, and bathroom TV, and another eye-catching mural , while the third bedroom has a super-king-size bed (which can be re-configured as twins) and a huge en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower and double basin.
It's a great property for a group of friends or a family, and there's enough on the estate to keep even the most difficult teenagers occupied. But bear in mind too that you're well located for walks or bike rides into the Norfolk countryside, either north towards the coast at Wells or Holkham or south towards the abbey ruins at Castle Acre. There's also a terrific pub, the Brisley Bell, that serves excellent food and is within walking distance to the east.
