A cosy retreat for two (or solo travellers) in Fernhurst, West Sussex, the one-bedroom/bathroom Cottage is thoughtfully designed across one floor and has plenty of character, from wooden beams to flagstone flooring. Décor is tasteful throughout, and the open-plan kitchen/lounge features a stable door and log fire, while the bedroom is home to a small UK double bed, and the bathroom has a bath/shower.
Topping things off is a private hot tub enclosed in a shelter, so you can take a dip whatever the weather, and enjoy views towards the garden as you relax. There's also outdoor seating around a wood-burner, and a table and chairs for al fresco dining.
Part of The Old Rectory, a collection of three fabulous properties managed by The Butler Collection, it's possible to rent them all (The Cottage, plus The Barn and The Loft) – combined, they sleep 14 adults and two children.
The Cottage is a lovely base from which to explore the surrounding South Downs countryside, and not far from Blackdown, the highest point in the county. Haslemere is close by, where you'll find a train station, and Chichester and Arundel are just over half an hour away by car. On foot, the Red Lion pub is easily reachable. Alternatively, if you fancy staying in, The Butler Collection offers a bespoke concierge service and can arrange anything from breakfast to a private chef.
