Volks Electric Railway

Madeira Drive Brighton

Named after its designer, the Brightonian inventor and engineer Magnus Volk, this narrow gauge electric railway opened in 1883, making it the oldest in Britain. It’s a quirky summer attraction; you trundle along Kemptown beach in an open-sided wooden contraption which toots as it goes. Volks’ other achievements include illuminating the Royal Pavilion. There are stations at the Aquarium (Sea Life Centre) Halfway (Paston Place) and Black Rock (Marina).
