Out on Bournemouth’s eastern fringes, the Stour is a delightful ribbon of tree-fringed water that flows into the calm, open Christchurch harbour. The best way to explore is to hire a self-drive motor boat, available from Tuckton. Thirty minutes gives you enough time to head inland to the low, stone Iford Bridge, but take an hour and you can also brave the harbour, bustling with swans, yachts and pleasure craft.
