Occupying a former seaman’s house down in the Bay, Jolyons is Cardiff’s standout boutique hotel. Each of the six rooms bears its own distinct character; room two, for example, boasts Dutch-style furnishings and Italian crystal lighting, and room three offers a strong Moroccan flourish. Room six up on the top floor, meanwhile, has its own large veranda with table and chairs. Note that room one on the ground floor backs on to the garden terrace and sits directly above the cellar bar (which is where breakfast is taken), so noise and smells can seep through, though it does contain a rather fine four-poster bed. All rooms, though, are furnished with smooth cotton sheets, fluffy towels and bathrobes, an ipod dock and little bowls of sweeties – refilled daily, you'll be pleased to know.
