Harbourside pub with rooms in the heart of Lyme Regis, with sea-view rooms, excellent food and the Jurassic Coast’s beaches quite literally on the doorstep
Standing proudly in a historic Georgian building is the Rock Point, a characterful pub with rooms in West Dorset's Lyme Regis. With views of the crescent-shaped beach all the way round to The Cobb (the town's stone-built breakwater jetty), the over-235-year-old building was formerly a glass and china emporium, a fishmonger's, and a wine and spirit merchant, before becoming a hotel and guest house in the early 20th century. Fast forward to 2018: Cornwall’s St Austell Brewery purchased the property, and it underwent a multi-million-pound renovation. In 2026, the independent group was named 'Best Managed Pub Company' and 'Best Sustainable Pub Company' at the Publican Awards.
A centrepiece of Lyme Regis, the Rock Point occupies a fabulous position on the Jurassic Coast, and it's the sort of place you can check in, leave your car keys in the room, and spend your time on foot or bike. Choose from nine stylishly decorated bedrooms, each blending modernity with charm – options range from 'Standard Double' and 'Signature' to 'Premium'. All come with en-suite shower rooms (except for number seven, which has a bath), luxury toiletries, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer and WiFi; some have sea views, others are dog-friendly.
Back downstairs, make the most of the triple-aspect windows to admire the glorious outlooks, or head out to the harbour-facing terrace. And the food? It's a big part of the appeal, with a menu that focuses on local produce, seasonal specials and pub classics. Dishes may include anything from South West moules mariniere and chicken and ribs combo, to locally landed whole catch of the day, and fiery falafel and spinach burger. The bar showcases St Austell’s West Country ales and beers, including familiar favourites such as Tribute, Proper Job and korev.
Lyme Regis itself, the Pearl of Dorset, offers shingle and sandy stretches in either direction, from Front Beach to Church Cliff. Head westwards to Monmouth for fossil hunting along the 'Ammonite Pavement'. Further afield, the 95-mile-long Jurassic Coast boasts plenty of walking routes. Meanwhile, the Cobb Trail is perfect if you want to get out on two wheels, and the picturesque village of Beer is a 20-minute drive away, if you decide to pick up those car keys.
