Ham Hideaway
South East England Kent Deal
- 3 Shepherds Huts and 2 Safari Tents
- Safari Lodges
- Shepherd’s huts
Ham Hideaway is a hideaway in every sense of the word; a tucked away glamping site hidden in the Kent countryside that makes for a perfect getaway location. The spacious site is surrounded on all sides by trees and hedges, accessed through a hidden wooden door which leads onto the selection of shepherds huts and safari tents found beyond. If the idea of camping in the great outdoors fills you with trepidation, you can rest assured that you'll have no worries here; every detail has been carefully considered. There's a high chance that Chris, your host, will be waiting for you when you arrive to lead you to your hut or tent and from that point onwards, the Ham Hideaway team are on-call to assist as much or as little as you'd like.
In advance of your stay you can book in for afternoon tea on arrival (with optional prosecco) as well as ordering breakfast to be delivered, butler-style, to your door each morning if that takes your fancy. Breakfasts aren't included in the cost of your stay but they're great value and free for kids under five. In fact, Ham Hideaway's location next to The Blazing Donkey country hotel means that it's the perfect place for those who'd rather not be in the kitchen on holiday with the option to take breakfast, lunch or dinner either where you're staying or in the hotel's barn restaurant. What's more, you can arrange for your tent or hut to be spruced up daily with a maid service while BBQ hampers, flowers and champagne are no trouble at all.
The three shepherds huts and two safari tents all share the same secluded space and have been finished to the highest standard. The huts are perfect romantic boltholes for couples, with proper double beds and private decks for taking in the views. Each has its own en-suite bathroom and one, Sweet Briar, even comes with a wonderful polished copper free-standing bath. The safari tents are perfect for families, sleeping 4 to 6 with a double room, twin room and sofa bed in the main living space. There's a covered outdoor deck with furniture as well as a separate private bathroom for each tent. Every detail here is considered and tasteful, from Egyptian cotton sheets to high-end toiletries to the interior finishes. All the huts and tents are heated, come with high speed WiFi and are dog-friendly.
You may find that you don't want to stray far from your ideal glamping enclave but if you do, there's plenty to do nearby. The countryside around is perfect for walks and cycle rides while just 15 minutes in the car will get you to quirky Deal with its pier, restaurants and galleries. You're also just a stone's throw from the Royal St George's Golf Club and beach at Sandwich Bay. Historic Dover is to the south, world-famous Canterbury is inland and half an hour's drive north will get to the seaside towns of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. After a long day out and about, we can't think of a better way to wind down than by returning to your secluded glamping hideaway and putting your feet up, safe in the knowledge that someone's already preparing your three-course dinner.
