Part of the hugely successful Feather Down Farms concept, Dolphinholme House Farm is camping for those who like their creature comforts – rustic decor and outdoor living but with comfy bedding and all mod cons thrown in including a hob, wood burner and coffee grinder. Feather Down takes pride in the details, making sure you always get a jaw-dropping view, the eggs are always ready to be collected from the chicken coop; and fresh bacon and milk is only a larder trip away. This leaves you more time to concentrate on enjoying yourself and making the most of your surroundings. You don't need a tent, as they come pre-erected, fully furnished and look somewhat close to a rural pop up palace. Feather Down use redundant land from farmers, build the tents, and then let the (more authentic) farmers look after you.

Dolphinholme House Farm is an ideal place for families. Being slap bang next to the River Wyre, means you get your own wild and stunning swimming pool – a perfect area for picnicking and larking about in the sun. There's an onsite play barn too, which excites most grown-ups, let alone kids, with bales of hay, a swing, a sandpit and giant slide and much more. It's also a working dairy farm, with goats, and if you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of the elusive roe deer in front of your tent. Offsite, take your pick from the Lake District, Blackpool's fairs and the Yorkshire Dales – all just a day trip away.

Facilities

Each tent has a wood-burning stove, flush toilet, cold running water, a worktop, chiller, dining table, chairs and a couple of comfy deckchairs, and there is a picnic table outside, with stone circles for campfires. There are 2 bedrooms and a bunkroom for the kids, and lighting is by oil lamp and candles – there’s no electricity. A shower block has 3 hot showers, including a family shower. The honesty shop is always open and well stocked with fruit and veg, Forest of Bowland butter, locally sourced meat, the farm’s own cheese and frozen food, including home-cooked frozen ready-meals. There are board games and toys to borrow. Kids of the 2-legged variety can play with the 4-legged ones in the barn, which also has a hay mountain for crawling over and a tyre swing, and there are ponies, hens, pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs – so lots of petting opportunities. There’s also onsite bike hire (bring your own helmets) and tours of the farm, with trails and footpaths.
