Waveney River Centre

UK England East Anglia Norfolk

Staithe Rd, Burgh St Peter, nr Beccles, Norfolk NR34 0BT

An oasis of activity in what truly feels like the middle of nowhere down in the southern Broads.
The Waveney River Centre is an oasis of activity in what truly feels like the middle of nowhere down in the southern Broads. It’s many things rolled into one: it’s a well-equipped camping and glamping site, right by the water, but it also has a number of holiday lodges (including accessible lodges for disabled visitors) and a great restaurant with very comfy B&B rooms above. It also offers moorings to hire boats and rents day boats and canoes at what must be one of the best locations from which to explore this part of the Broads national park – a location which also offers plenty of opportunity for glorious walks and cycle rides.
There are 14 pitches for tourers and 35 for tents, and they all have views over the water and are spacious enough to accommodate your car, and some have electric hook-ups.
There is a modern and well-equipped shower block with heated shower rooms and toilets, a disabled toilet and shower, and 2 family rooms, a washing-up area with hot and cold running water, and a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers. Other facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a children’s play area, canoe hire, day-boat hire and cycle hire, river trips on the ‘Betsie-Jane’, a ‘secret wildlife garden’ for kids, plus they have regular visits during summer from local wildlife experts and storytellers.
The site is partially supplied by solar panels, and they have an energy-efficient pool and low-energy lighting throughout; pretty much everything is recycled, and the centre has won the David Bellamy conservation award three years running. But maybe the best – and greenest – thing they have done is to reinstate the foot ferry across the river, which not only gives access to beautiful Carlton Marshes and Oulton Broad but has made the car journey from Lowestoft to Waveney about six times shorter.

The Owner Says

We're a family-owned 5-star Park with a small, motivated staff who are devoted to making you happy so that you'll want to visit us again and tell your friends about Norfolk's hidden gem. Our Park has a strong eco-focus and we strive to ensure that our activities support and enhance the unique wetland environment of the Broads.

We want you to leave your car keys on the side and just relax and enjoy our little corner of the Broads National Park. You can swim in our indoor heated pool and we've an adventure playground and wildlife garden too which should exhaust the kids nicely.

Our luxury holiday lodges are spacious, contemporary and suitable for holidays at any time of year. All have great views across the Norfolk & Suffolk marshes as well as your own bird feeder right by your balcony. Campers & caravanners will not only love the fabulous view across the marina and river, but also appreciate the privacy of our heated, individual shower and wash rooms.

There's a friendly pub, poolside café and a large shop too – giving you everything you need for your relaxing break on the Broads.

Our favourite spot

Caravans, campers, tents, small groups, dogs – yes.

The local area

If you fancy exploring the river then we've day cruisers, canoes and kayaks to hire – or you could have a wildlife tour aboard a skippered boat. For a good walk – short or long – you need only jump on our ferry across to the Carlton Marshes nature reserve where you can see the Broads in miniature, before taking a stroll to the local town of Oulton Broad or even Beccles.

Best local places to eat and drink

On-site, the pool has a café serving breakfast, sandwiches, jackets and the like, and there’s a pub, the Waveney Inn, which serves meals at lunchtime and evenings. Off the site, the nearest pubs are The Wheatacre White Lion (01502 677388, 2 miles) - serving English and Thai food - and The Haddiscoe Crown (01502 677368), 6 miles away, which is a decent local serving a fairly typical pub menu of steaks and burgers, plus a small selection of Spanish tapas.

The Waveney Inn is on site and open all year (all day during holidays, lunchtimes and evenings at other times)
