Overlooking the Tay Valley sit Strathtay Lodges, the latest addition to the Highland Perthshire Holiday Homes collection. The newly built self-catering properties currently comprise one-storey Treetops and Glen View, with more coming soon. Nestling into the hillside, the modern yet cosy spaces enjoy panoramic views of the River Tay – the longest in Scotland.

Offering a mix of escapism and convenience, guests can immerse themselves in nature, while the pretty yet lively town of Aberfeldy is just a 10-minute walk away. Both lodges sleep up to six people across three bedrooms – Treetops has one double and two twins, and Glen View has two doubles and a twin. Each master features an en-suite, and the other guest rooms share a spacious bathroom with a shower. Elsewhere in the similarly laid out lodges, enjoy an open-plan living and dining area complete with a log burner for cold days. On warmer ones, head out the sliding doors to the spacious enclosed terrace that's home to comfortable outdoor furniture. Floor-to-ceiling windows mean the fabulous countryside scenery can be admired all year round. Both properties have a Smart TV and WiFi, as well as a fully equipped contemporary kitchen with an oven, a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. But if you don't fancy cooking, there are several restaurants and pubs in Aberfeldy and the surrounds, such as Black Watch Inn & Croft, Upstairs at the Townhouse and Ailean Chraggan.

It's worth noting the road up to Strathtay Lodges is fairly steep, with a couple of sharp corners. Once you arrive, Treetops has two parking spaces and an EV charger, plus secure bike storage; Glen View has room for three vehicles. You may not feel like leaving the tranquility of your lodge (and we wouldn't blame you), but if you do, there's plenty to explore nearby, from boating on Loch Tay to hiking towering Ben Lawers Munro. And if you're a whisky fan, look no further than Dewar's Distillery. Located just down the road, they offer guided tours and also have a shop, café and licensed bar. Back at your lodge, relax with your tipple of choice, and get back to admiring those glorious views.

Sona Brae lodge

The lodge is perfectly placed to take advantage of the amazing views across to the mountains. The inside is immaculate and has lots of space and every appliance you would ever need. The lodge is beautifully furnished and makes for a great stay.We were there in June 2023 and enjoyed the wonderful walks nearby plus found a couple of great restaurants with walking distance. We also visited Pitlochry and Perth and both are well worth visiting. We didn't have time to go fishing or boating but it's something we'll do on our next visit
