Lundin Farmhouse

This former farmhouse in the Perthshire Highlands offers self-catering on a grand and rather luxurious scale. It has five bedrooms and five bathrooms, a cinema screen, a games room and a hot tub. Not only that, there are both formal and informal dining tables and an incredibly well-equipped kitchen. You can book extras too, like catering, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and even on-site art classes. But underpinning everything that’s on offer here is the location – an elevated position just two miles from the town of Aberfeldy. It’s surrounded by farmland and Perthshire’s highest mountains, and even has its own small loch.

Every room in Lundin Farmhouse and every spot in the garden has a lovely view – and, as such, it celebrates its location. It's also a great space to mark an occasion, and an ideal place to get together with family or friends. Sleeping up to 10, the five bedrooms offer a flexible setup – they all have zip-and-link beds, meaning you can have whatever mixture of doubles or twins your group requires. Four of the bedrooms are en-suite and the fifth has an allocated but separate shower room and toilet. The style throughout is warm, elegant and in keeping with the house’s Victorian roots. Bedrooms are carpeted and curtained, with framed pictures on dusky-coloured walls and antique pieces of furniture here and there.

Downstairs, it’s a little more dramatic thanks to the vaulted ceiling and huge windows around the dining table, which is part of an open-plan living space. The decor, however, remains in keeping, with muted colours and artwork and an eclectic mixture of furniture. The classical dining table and sideboard are backed by velveteen sofas and a log burner. In the connected kitchen, it’s very much farmhouse style. And to finish it all off, there’s a separate snug with a pool and card tables and a cinema screen.

Outside, an enclosed garden keeps kids and dogs contained, but you’ll undoubtedly want to strike out into the surrounding countryside at some point. Aside from the outdoor pursuits on offer, there are mountains and lochs to explore, whitewater rafting on rivers, hiking up hills and boating on Loch Tay. Or perhaps you’d prefer to simply mooch around towns and villages like Aberfeldy, Kenmore and Pitlochry, while enjoying more of those exquisite Highland views?
