In the hamlet where Thomas Hardy was born and grew up, Greenwood Grange is a lovely complex of 16 beautifully furnished self-catering cottages on an eco-friendly farm. The cottages (sleeping from 2 to 8) are in converted barns and outbuildings, a few of which were built by Thomas Hardy’s architect father, and are furnished in contemporary style – some have wood-burners and french windows opening onto a private terrace. There’s a games room with table tennis, table football and billiards and an indoor swimming pool and a sauna on-site too. The lovely grounds are great for children, with a trampoline, tennis courts, nature trails and a play yurt, and there’s also an organic vegetable garden to explore. And, if you wanted some 'Two Together Time' there is also a babysitting service. What more can you ask?
