What child hasn't dreamed of running through the woodland glades of Sherwood Forest with a bow and arrow? Well, here they can, at Forest Holidays' superb woodland site in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. There are 3,300 acres of pine forest to explore, a choice of cabins – including treehouses (sleeping up to 10 people) and adults-only hideaways (sleeping 2) – plus a host of activities, both within the Forest Holidays site itself and in Sherwood Forest beyond. There's a visitor centre a five-minute walk from the site where you can find out all you need to know about the adjacent Sherwood Pines Forest Park.

All the cabins are extremely comfortable, equipped with a TV, wifi (an optional extra), and fluffy robes in the en-suite (only included as a standard in the Golden Oak cabins); and pets are welcome in certain cabins. Facilities and activities abound, from traditional biking and walking trails to Segway hire, plus there's a branch of the Go Ape high-wire outfit. 

On the Forest Holidays site itself, there's the usual Forest Retreat centre, with a café and bar, shop and kids play area, lots of bushcraft and wildlife-spotting activities with the Forest Rangers, including walks with hawks, pony-trekking, painting classes – and, naturally, archery. They even offer -in-cabin spa treatments for frazzled or indeed pampered parents.
