These handsome gardens, with their ornamental borders, verdant terraces and fountains, have recently been restored to their former appearance – and lovely they are too, especially in the heat of a summer’s day. The gardens are in an old chalk quarry that was cleared and planted in the nineteenth century by a wealthy cabinet-maker, one Henry Trevor.
