Every small town needs a good butcher and Ashbee & Sons has been on Rye’s High Street since the 1850s. It’s a fresh meat and pies kind of place but with exotica like salami and Sussex cheese thrown in for good measure. The best bit though is pushing your way through the chain-mail curtain at the door and being hit by the delightful smell of everything on offer. Ashbee & Sons is a hark back to the good old days when local meat was at hand in the high street butchers and everybody could get the freshest cuts. Years on, this is still the place to go to grab good produce in Rye.
