Upper Derwent Visitor Centre

Fairholmes, Bamford, Derbyshire S33 0AQ

Situated in the middle of the Howden, Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs, this centre is just 500 metres from the Derwent Dam and is chock full of information, whether you're a walker, cyclist or armchair tourist. There's a huge car park and it's an ideal base from which to get to know the Upper Derwent Valley and surrounding moorlands; there's at least a couple of day's worth of exploring to be done, from dramatic reservoirs (Howden is the place Barnes Wallis tried out his bouncing bombs) and quiet forests to wild open spaces.
