The Rising Sun

St Mawes Cornwall TR2 5DJ

On a summer’s day the terrace at The Rising Sun is packed with punters jostling for a pew with a view over the beach and the mouth of the River Fal. You can watch the comings and goings of the boats, and dip your feet in the sea within footsteps, so it’s no surprise that this is a popular venue. Heartily welcoming dogs and children into the mix, and open from breakfast until long after the chef’s finished serving dinner, there’s hardly a reason to pass by without popping in for a pint or a plate of decent Cornish food. Fare is local and seasonal with a traditional pub-grub edge – scallops, scampi, sausage and mash, or local catch with homemade chips. And you don’t need a summer’s day to enjoy the offerings of this traditional pub bedecked with model sailing boats; it manages to stay cosy all winter, with log fires and a sunny sea-view conservatory.
