Old Success Inn

Occupying a prominent position on Cove Hill, the 17th-century Old Success Inn overlooks one of Cornwall’s most spectacular beaches. With the Atlantic rolling into the bay below, Land’s End just along the coast, and some of the county's best walking straight from the door, the setting speaks for itself. Add comfortable rooms, a welcoming pub and a sea-facing terrace, and you have an enticing base for getting to know this scenic part of the UK.

A landmark in Sennen Cove, the inn was once a traditional fisherman's alehouse. Today, St Austell Brewery is at the helm. Inside, there's a relaxed feel, with a roaring fire for chillier evenings and plenty of space to settle down after a day outdoors.

There are 24 en-suite bedrooms spread across the main building and an annexe, ranging from 'Cosy Double' and 'Accessible Double' to ''Signature View' and ‘Deluxe Suite'. Twin and dog-friendly options are also available. The style is comfortable and contemporary, with nods to the coastal setting, and there's everything you need, from a hairdryer, an iron and a TV to tea- and coffee-making facilities and luxe toiletries.

Food is another highlight. The restaurant menu focuses on seasonal flavours, local produce and pub favourites, with everything from lighter dishes such as chicken satay bowl and St Ewe egg salad to hearty plates like steak, beef shin and Tribute pie, and 'nduja bolognese ragu. There’s also a specials list. When the weather's good, the outdoor space is particularly appealing for a meal and a drink or two.

Sennen is brilliantly placed for exploring the dramatic western tip of the county, with the South West Coast Path passing nearby and dramatic cliff scenery in both directions. Head to Land’s End, or for something longer, go north towards Cape Cornwall. If getting out on two wheels is more your thing, there are plenty of cycling routes.

The extraordinary open-air Minack Theatre is a 15-minute drive, and beach lovers hardly need to go anywhere at all: Sennen Cove is a fine sandy stretch and a favourite with surfers and swimmers.
